Prevention

The most important aspect of inhalant abuse prevention is getting the message across to everyone that these products are poisons, pollutants, toxins, fire and explosion hazards. These products were never meant to be put in your body and can cause damage to your nervous system, kidneys, lungs, liver, and bone marrow. They can also be deadly: causing accidents, cardiac arrhythmias, ('Sudden Sniffing Death'), fires, explosions, and suffocation.

There are five areas that need to be addressed to prevent inhalant abuse:

Education for Adults and Children
Curriculum Review
Environmental Safety
Policies that limit access
Ability to Intervene and Assess Children who may be Using
